A former TT rider who came off his bike during a test run on the Isle of Man died from head injuries, an inquest has heard.

Edward Poole, 79, was involved in a crash at Jurby Circuit during an Auto Cycle Union test day on 11 April.

The inquest was told the retired mechanical engineer, who lived at Rhencullen in Kirk Michael, had been admitted to Noble's Hospital in Braddan where he received a referral to Walton Hospital.

His condition had then declined and he died in the Isle of Man's main hospital on 19 April.

Adjourning the inquest at Douglas Courthouse coroner Alexander Armstrong passed on his condolences to Mr Poole's family and friends.

An experienced rider, he began his Mountain Course racing career in 1994 and competed in the Isle of Man TT, Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT for over 25 years.

In a statement after his death Andreas Racing Association said he was a "valued member of our paddock community and will be greatly missed."

"Our thoughts are with his wife, his family, and all who knew him at this incredibly difficult time."
