Football team praised for helping to save life of player who suffered cardiac arrest

Charity commends lifesaving action after training incident

A football club in the south of the Island has been praised for helping to save the life of one of its members.

Last week one of the veterans’ players suffered a cardiac arrest at an evening training session at Colby AFC.

His quick-thinking teammates started CPR and used a defibrillator, which had been provided to the club by Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation, until the Isle of Man Ambulance Service arrived.

The man was taken to Noble’s Hospital and Manx Radio understands he was then transferred to a hospital in the UK for further treatment.

Paul Healey is the chairman of the charity and has been speaking to Tessa Hawley:

Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation was set up by the Lunt family in memory of their 25-year-old son who died in April 2005 from an undiagnosed heart defect.

It works to raise money to fund heart screening for men and women, aged between 14 and 35 on the Isle of Man, in order to help prevent Sudden Death Syndrome.

The charity also provides lifesaving defibrillators to sports clubs, schools and offices across the Island as well as funding public access machines Island wide.
