Foodbank under pressure from falling donations and rising demand

Some people are struggling to feed themselves says charity

Some people on the Island are struggling to afford to feed themselves.

That’s the stark message from the Isle of Man Foodbank which has told Manx Radio demand for its services is rising.

But the charity, which is based in Tromode, says some of its storerooms are less than half full after a drop in donations.

It’s blamed increasing prices and falling salaries.

Douglas Manager Sharon Corris and Chairman David Gawne say the levels of hardship they are encountering can be distressing:

A three-day ‘food drive’, at Tesco Little Switzerland in Douglas, will start today (23 July).

It will run between 10am and 6pm each day.
