Allotment used to supplement donations
The Island’s food bank is still accepting donations – but it’s now also producing its own home-grown food.
Volunteers from the organisation, which is based on Peel Road in Douglas with homelessness charity Housing Matters, have been working an allotment to supplement the produce donated to it.
The allotment in Braaid has so far produced staple foods like onions, mushrooms and potatoes which can be given to those in need.
Food bank volunteer Arthur says it’s a novel way of helping people, and plenty of fun for green-fingered participants:
