Flour report imminent as wheat growers say sector is 'dead'

Farmers have faced almost a year of uncertainty following closure of Ramsey Bakery

The milling wheat sector on the Isle of Man is now dead, and farmers have been abandoned.

That's from the chairman of the Manx National Farmers Union's crops committee and wheat grower, David Brew.

It's almost a year since the government-owned Laxey Glen Mills lost it's biggest customer, Ramsey Bakery.

Meanwhile the minister responsible for the Island's farming and food sectors says it's time to bring an end to the uncertainty facing wheat growers on the Isle of Man.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is working on a report into the future wheat and flour milling on the Island, which is due to be published shortly.
