Minister says there are other areas to expand
Efforts to diversify the Island's fishing industry is a 'symptom' of falling queenie stocks.
The environment minister made the comments following the decision to restrict queen scallop fishing to just one area around the Island.
Geoffey Boot says the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is working with the fish producer's association to continuously review the state of the Island's waters.
He says the need to now diversify is a consequence of the decision to preserve stocks at the beginning of the season:
