Representatives will share practical advice
Island residents are invited to attend a drop-in session designed to help the public to prepare for emergencies and stay safe during unexpected events.
The session is the first in a series planned under the title of ‘Isle be Ready’, and will bring together representatives from key emergency and public services, including:
• Isle of Man Constabulary
• Ambulance Service
• Emergency Planning Unit
• Civil Defence
• Fire and Rescue Service
• Department of Infrastructure
• Public Health
• Coastguard
• Manx Utilities
Representatives will share practical advice on what every household should know and have ready in case of an emergency. Topics will include:
• Essential items to keep at home for emergencies or weather events.
• Steps to protect your family and pets.
• How to keep your home and personal items safe.
Emergency Planning Officer Jane Kelly said: "Our drop-in sessions are designed to help people to prepare for unexpected events.
"We want residents to think about how they would cope with no power, no internet, no mains water, or during weather events that cause damage to their properties and how these things can be prevented or the impact reduced.
"Colleagues throughout government will be attending the drop-in sessions to give advice on a wide range of topics and to help the communities be more resilient.
"Some of the information will be helpful for people in the case of an emergency, while some will help with other day-to-day issues.
"We would like to welcome everyone in the community to come along and have a chat with us."
Additional resources and guidance will be available online for those unable to attend in person and similar events in other locations will take place throughout the year
The first in a new series of sessions, it will take place at Andreas Parish Hall on 12 February from 3pm to 7pm.
