Nick Hays is adding an extra 15kgs to his walk

A firefighter is hoping to surpass the Guinness World Record for the longest distance walked while wearing a fire kit and breathing apparatus while taking on the Parish Walk tomorrow (21 June).

Nick Hays, is taking on his first walk with an extra 15 kilos.

The current record is held by a South Yorkshire firefighter who walked 57 miles in it.

Mr Hays told Manx Radio he is doing it to raise funds for the Fire Fighters Charity, which provides support for firefighters and their family members, as well as the Great North Air Ambulance:

"This will be no small feat as a firefighter carries approx 15kg of kit whilst wearing a suit designed to repel heat, making this quite the challenge! I'm looking to go as far as possible and as best I can tell, the furthest recorded distance traveled is 57 miles so if I can manage anywhere near this, that would be incredible."
