Fire service issues warning over wildfire risks

Officials issue message amid warmer weather

Residents are being reminded about risks which can lead to wildfires.

Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service says with warm weather expected to continue, people should be mindful that 'small actions can spark large-scale fires during dry periods.'

Among the possible hazards, firefighters say, are disposable barbecues left behind or used on dry grass; discarded cigarettes thrown out of car windows or dropped on paths as well as unattended campfires.

The service adds hot engines or exhausts from running vehicles on dry ground may also be a risk along with bonfires and fireworks as well as glass bottles which can magnify sunlight.
