Fire service issues warning after kitchen fires cause major damage

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service is reminding the public of the dangers of unattended cooking, following recent incidents where kitchen fires led to significant damage.

In one case, firefighters entered a locked property in Willaston through a first-floor window to reach a person inside, after smoke was seen coming from the kitchen.

In another, crews from Malew and Rushen were called to a more severe fire that broke out while the homeowners were out.

That blaze had spread by the time firefighters arrived.

The service says kitchen fires remain one of the most common - and preventable - causes of household emergencies.
