Fire officer praises 'quick-thinking' staff after blaze at fire station

Investigations continuing after incident which destroyed fire engine 

The Island's chief fire officer has praised the professionalism of staff who dealt with a fire in a station this week. 

Castletown and Malew Fire and Ambulance Station went up in flames on Thursday evening.

Extensive damage was caused and one emergency vehicle was totally destroyed.

Crews from Douglas and Rushen, as well as the Airport Fire Service at Ronaldsway, helped at the site while crews at other stations provided cover around the Island:

Mr Christian told Manx Radio: "I think firstly I'd just like to thank the local crew at Castletown and Malew. 

"One of our colleagues happened to be on station - it's normally an unstaffed station for us - it's an on-call station, and they raised the alarm very early doors as soon as it became apparent that there was a fire in the in the engine house.

"Some of the action from that individual was absolutely tremendous to recover some PPE out to out of the locker room."
