Fire crews were called out to a house in Port Erin yesterday afternoon (Sat) to deal with a kitchen fire.
A bag of shopping had been left on a hob in the house at Ballamaddrell and it had caught light.
The occupier had unsuccessfully attempted to extinguish the fire using a damp tea towel prior to calling the fire service, then escaping unharmed.
Firemen wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze and ventilated the property.
Fire services say combustible materials should NEVER been put onto hot cooker hobs as they will almost certainly catch fire.
Cookers and hobs should be turned off after use and when cooking they should never be left unattended.
