Fine for Peel man who was drunk and incapable on Christmas Eve

42-year-old was spotted with head and hand injuries

A Peel man who fell over on Christmas Eve after consuming too much alcohol has been fined £350.

Paul Anthony McBrien, of Mona Street, was spotted by police staggering in the street - and walking in front of an oncoming car - just before 8.30pm.

At Douglas Courthouse the 42-year-old admitted being drunk and incapable and possessing cannabis on 23 December.

The court heard officers had tried to assist McBrien – who had injured his head and hand – but he gave them false details.

He was arrested due to concerns for his safety and an ambulance was called.

During a subsequent search a grinder and 0.7 grams of cannabis, with a street value of £14, were recovered from McBrien’s clothing.

McBrien’s advocate told the court he’d been making his way home from a pub and had lost his footing and stumbled adding: "He probably had too much to drink that night."

Fining him, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £125, High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him he’d used up the time of medical professionals adding: "That would have been unnecessary had you not been as intoxicated as you were."
