Faith groups invited to discuss 'Daniel's Law'

Meeting to be hosted by Public Health and the Bishop

Faith groups are being invited to meet to discuss the implementation 'Daniel's Law' on the Isle of Man.

The Human Tissue and Organ Act will make organ donation an 'opt out' system when it comes into force.

The meeting, co-hosted by Public Health and the Bishop, will provide an opportunity for faith groups to share their perspectives on the new law.

Director of Public Health, Matt Tyrer, says: "We want to ensure that the new opt-out organ donation system is as inclusive as possible.

"This focus group will give faith leaders and people of different faiths a chance to discuss the legislation, raise any concerns, and provide feedback.

"We encourage all faith groups to take part in the conversation, as their input is important in shaping how we move forward. The Codes of Practice and Secondary Legislation are due to be presented to Tynwald in July 2025."

Lord Bishop of the Isle of Man, The Right Reverend Patricia Hillas, adds: "Organ donation is a profound act of generosity and compassion, deeply rooted in the moral and ethical teachings of many faiths.

"This focus group provides a crucial platform for faith leaders to discuss how these values can be honoured and respected within the new organ donation law.

"We invite all faith leaders and organisations to join the conversation and ensure that the diverse perspectives of our faith communities are reflected in its implementation."

The event is being held on Friday 2 May at the Bishop's Office - Thie yn Aspick - off Tromode Road between 10am and 11:30am.

Those who'd like to attend are encouraged to confirm their participation by emailing Peter.Shimmin@gov.im by Wednesday 30 April.
