It's hoped community service acts as deterrent
A senior health and safety inspector says the Mount Murray fire just over three years ago put up to 100 people at risk. Santon man Roy Cross was fined £2,400 and ordered to carry out 240 hours of community service yesterday (Friday) at Douglas Courthouse. He was working on the roof of the hotel and leisure complex in November 2013 when the blaze broke out. Cross was told he had "come within a whisker of losing his liberty". Safety inspector Robert Greaves hopes the sentencing will help remind companies of the importance of suitable risk assessments:
