Tony Brown says operator should be allowed to serve drinks within Manx 12-mile limit

A former chief minister says the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company should be allowed to sell alcohol within the Manx 12-mile limit.

At present, the ferry operator must hold a licence to do so.

To obtain one, the company must operate a system of designated or responsible persons - something it says is impractical with its current staffing rota.

Tony Brown says he understands the Steam Packet has been trying for three years to secure the necessary permission:

A spokesman for the Steam Packet says the ferry company is always looking to provide the best for its passengers.

The Department of Home Affairs says the question of a licence is currently under consideration.
