The legislation which followed in the wake of the East Douglas by-election proxy vote controversy, has been delayed.
The clauses stage of the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill was stopped in the Keys today (Tues Mar 24th) to allow time for a series of amendments to be processed in time.
It is hoped the legislation can go through in plenty of time for the General Election next year, in particular the sections dealing with election spending.
It is possible the House may be asked to take the clauses stage and then, if successful, to suspend standing orders and immediately vote on the third stage.
