Lifeboat assists becalmed yacht
Douglas lifeboat crew had an early morning call-out today (29 March).
Volunteers were alerted at 2.40 am to go to the aid of a yacht which was becalmed off Douglas.
The vessel with two on board, had set off from Kirkudbright in Scotland the previous morning.
Their approach to Douglas was hampered when the wind dropped, and they had insufficient fuel to complete the journey under power.
The RNLI's all-weather lifeboat Sir William Hillary was launched and towed the stricken yacht back to Douglas Harbour where the Coastguard was waiting to assist.
The lifeboat was back in station by 3.45 am.
