Dredging takes place in Douglas outer harbour

Process to clear build up of silt

Douglas Harbour is to be dredged over the next few days, to try and avoid a repetition of the problems that faced sailings last week.

Crossings were cancelled as a result of a build up of silt, coupled with very low tides.

Following the incident last week harbour staff say they found no evidence of debris in the position indicated by the vessel.

However, a patch of sediment on the harbour bed had accumulated due to the turning manoeuvre of the Ben-my-Chree itself.

It's understood the area is to be ploughed by the Harbours Division workboat.

If the work cannot be done in time, it's thought it may result in further cancellations next weekend.
