Mental health boss accused of sexual misconduct

An investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Dr Timothy Byrne, of Noble's Hospital, will recommence in November.

The Clinical Director of Mental Health Services appeared before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in Manchester from 8-18 July, but the hearing was adjourned.

The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that between 2007 and 2016, Dr Byrne engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a patient, whilst acting as their treating psychiatrist or care coordinator.

June 2012 to June 2013 is the period of particular focus, within which it's alleged Dr Byrne had a sexual relationship with the patient and failed to accurately record or report any details of the intimacy.

It's claimed on one occasion, he entered the patient's house unannounced, gave them gifts, and also that his actions were sexually motivated.

The patient is described as being "vulnerable as a result of her mental health."

The tribunal hearing will recommence on 28 November 2019, lasting until 5 December.
