Douglas woman denies assaulting husband

Sixty-four-year-old appears before Deputy High Bailiff

A court’s heard a row over spices in a kitchen cupboard led to a wife allegedly attacking her husband with a rolling pin.

Sixty-four-year-old Anne Marie McHugh of Lheannag Park in Douglas appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith at Douglas courthouse.

She denies one count of assault on her husband at their home.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon said the argument happened on 9 May, and escalated until Mrs McHugh lashed out.

Miss Cubbon said Mrs McHugh hit her spouse twice on his lower back, causing minor injuries.

Mr Arrowsmith granted bail in the sum of £500 until she appears in court again on 7 July for a pre-trial review.

He imposed conditions that she lives at an address in Homefield Close in Willaston and doesn’t return to her home, except once with police officers to collect her belongings.

She was also told not to contact her alleged victim or leave the Isle of Man without the court’s permission.
