Douglas man denies glass bottle attack

Thirty-six-year-old pleads not guilty to assault

A man’s denied carrying out an unprovoked attack with a glass bottle on a friend.

Carl Joseph Bridson of Somerset Road in Douglas appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

The 36-year-old pleaded not guilty to one count of assault causing actual bodily harm on 30 October.

The court heard the man had spotted Bridson in a doctor’s car park in Douglas shortly before 11am – Bridson is alleged to have punched him in the head up to four times for no reason.

The hearing was told Bridson was carrying a glass bottle in his left hand as he punched the man with his right.

Mr Bridson is alleged to have hit the man with the bottle as he carried out the attack, which left his alleged victim with minor injuries.

Prosecution advocate Chrissie Hunt said she accepted Mr Bridson hadn’t used the bottle as a weapon but had struck the man with it as he punched him.

Mrs Hughes granted bail and Mr Bridson is next due to appear in court on 16 February.
