A Douglas man's been bound over to keep the peace after being charged with attacking his ex-girlfriend.

Matthew Ian Gaynor of Rosehill Mews appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

The 36 year old faced one count each of assault and criminal damage at the woman's home on 9 September.

The court heard Gaynor's alleged victim and a member of the public rang police, and when officers arrived she said Gaynor had grabbed her by the throat.

Prosecution advocate Barry Swain said the two had been involved in a relationship but Gaynor hadn't been able to accept it was over.

He said Gaynor had arrived at her home drunk, begging her to take him back before turning violent when she refused.

The woman later withdrew her statement, and Gaynor's advocate said he didn't accept the facts as presented by the prosecution.

Gaynor agreed to be bound over to keep the peace for 12 months in the sum of £500, and the charges were withdrawn.
