Douglas man accused of bribing Ugandan court officials

68-year-old denies transferring money to 'make company disappear'

A Douglas man will stand trial after being accused of bribing court staff in Uganda.

Gordon John Mundy, of Selbourne Drive, denies committing conspiracy between 5 and 10 December 2011.

The 68-year-old appeared at Douglas Courthouse where he also entered a not guilty plea to a corruption offence said to have been committed between the same dates.

It’s alleged that, as the managing director of a corporate service provider, he conspired to influence foreign public officials – by transferring $2,000 – to ‘make a company disappear’.

Committal proceedings – where the case is elevated to the Court of General Gaol Delivery – will take place on 6 February; he’s been bailed until that date.

Update: At Douglas Courthouse on 6 February Mr Mundy's advocate challenged the committal process. A committal challenge hearing will take place on 13 March.

Update: A four-day trial is due to start at the Court of General Gaol Delivery on 3 February 2025. This was later vacated.

Update: At Douglas Courthouse, on 21 March 2025, Mr Mundy was told a trial will now take place on 9 June 2025.
