Douglas dance school invests £60,000 into new academy

Move it Studios to subsidise 60 selected families in first year

A Douglas based dance school says it will invest £60,000 into a new academy.

Move it Studios has launched Move it Performance Academy.

Sixty families have been selected for the first year's intake with the school 'heavily' subsidising the costs which sees training and opportunities valued at £1,000.

Move it Studios is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.

The dance school says the academy has been 'designed to provide high-level training, specialist coaching, performance opportunities and personal development experiences for young people.'

Director Kate Caine said: "We’re launching MPA at a time when many children and teenagers are growing up in a world of increasing pressure, comparison and anxiety.

"Social media has created opportunities but it has also brought challenges that previous generations simply didn’t face.”

“Whilst many young people worry about followers, likes and fitting in online, we wanted to create something that helps them build real-world confidence, friendships and resilience.

“This isn’t just about creating better dancers. It’s about creating stronger young people.

"We want our students to feel part of something bigger than themselves. We want them to learn how to support one another, celebrate each other’s successes and develop the resilience they’ll need throughout their lives.”

The Move It Performance Academy will officially launch later this year with its founding members becoming the first generation of students to help shape the future of the programme.
