It will honour the 'immense bravery' of the people who served in the conflict
Douglas Council will be holding a Victory over Japan Day memorial service to mark its 80th Anniversary next week.
The local authority will honour the people who served in the conflict and will recognise the 'immense bravery' endured by thousands of British and Commonwealth forces.
During the service a bugler will sound the last post which will be followed by a minute's silence.
The short ceremony will be held at Hilary Park at 10.15am next Friday (15 August) with the Mayor's Chaplain leading the service and wreath-laying ceremony.
Mayor of Douglas Steven Crellin said: "This is a deeply significant and moving anniversary. As a nation, and as a community, it’s important that we continue to honour and remember those who fought and died during the war in the Far East.
"The Asia-Pacific conflict is sometimes referred to as the ‘forgotten war,’ but it must never be forgotten.
"We warmly invite residents and visitors to join us in paying their respects. Please assemble in Hilary Park from 10am."
