Douglas Council seeks permission for building compound on Ballanard Road playing field

Local authority says it will support 'multi million pound' housing refurbishment scheme

Douglas Council has applied for planning permission to create a building compound on Ballanard Road playing field. 

In its application, the local authority says the new compound site will support its 'multi million pound' social housing refurbishment scheme in the Willaston estate. 

The proposed site would be operational from 7:30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, whilst on Saturday it would have movement between 8am and 1pm. 

The council says the playing field is the 'only alternative area' and the adjacent main road will 'drown out' noise from the compound.

It's also requesting use of the site for six years, but adds due to 'uncertainty' it may remain in place until all external refurbishment schemes are completed.

The council also says there will be little impact on nearby homes will be and that recreation is 'limited' on the field due to wet and muddy ground conditions. 

A number of local residents have formed a campaign group against the application.
