'Double whammy' of issues affecting restaurant trade

LVA described December as 'catastrophic' for pub and restaurant trade

Rising food prices and disruption over Christmas could be creating a 'double whammy' of issues for the local restaurant trade.

It follows a warning from the Licensed Victuallers Association that December had been 'catastrophic' for the hospitality industry.

Winter illness, along with rising Covid-19 cases, affected staffing for numerous venues during the festive season.

Meanwhile local hospitality business Extra Fancy Limited says it believes it made ‘the best of a bad situation’ during the disrupted Christmas period.

Its Home Alone themed bar, on Douglas Promenade, was hit by Covid related cancellations

It’s now re-invented into a Heartbreak Motel pop-up for the start of the New Year.
