Consultation process currently underway
The minister for Home Affairs is considering splitting the legislation on domestic abuse.
With a public consultation exercise currently underway, Minister Bill Malarky revealed his initial thoughts to law reform in Tynwald yesterday (17 July).
Douglas Central MHK Ann Corlett was critical of the department's current approach to domestic abuse, saying it worked only in reaction to a crisis.
The legislation stands as The Diversion of Offenders AND Domestic Abuse Bill.
The Minister told the court he believes the proposed new legislation will address Mrs Corlett's concerns.
