Incinerator capacity beyond Island's needs
Treating UK waste on the Isle of Man won't solve financial concerns at the incinerator in the long-term - according to Onchan MHK Rob Callister.
It's being recommended by Infrastructure's Waste Working Group that UK waste be transported here, securely stored and burned to produce a sizeable amount of electricity.
Usage fluctuates, but the plant doesn't operate to its 60,000 tonne yearly capacity, because the Island's population hasn't grown as expected.
The government is proposing 10,000 tonnes of imported waste be added to the 48,000 tonnes produced on-Island each year.
Mr Callister sat on the Energy From Waste Working Forum Group while a local commissioner.
He says he understands the problems the facility's facing:
