
The Island’s Infrastructure Minister says he’s disappointed proposals to spend £12 million redeveloping an empty site in the centre of Douglas won’t be going ahead.
But David Cretney MHK says Douglas Council’s plans for a car park, offices and library on Cambrian Place was overpriced, and didn’t meet required standards for transparency or consultation.
He says independent advice was that the scheme wasn’t value for money – and so the council’s request to borrow the cash was turned down.
Mr Cretney says another scheme may be in the pipeline soon, but he couldn’t let the corporation borrow the money needed:
