Director of Public Transport defends temporary platform

Transport chiefs are waiting to see how many people come forward to register as stand-in drivers for the bus strike planned for later this week.

The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure invited those with a valid PPV licence who are available to work over three days from Thursday, to apply as temporary drivers from today.

It's understood the department already has 30 suitable drivers lined up, enough to operate the planned Sunday service, though it's unclear how many will come forward on the day.

Meanwhile steam trains and electric trams will also be brought back into service.
