'Direct operational adjustments' considered to clamp-down on 'audience behaviour'

VillaGaiety responds to complaints after David Gray performance

The VillaGaiety says it’s exploring ‘more direct operational adjustments’ to clamp-down on ‘audience behaviour’.

It follows complaints about conversation levels during David Gray’s performance at the Douglas venue on Tuesday (23 June).

The performer described the crowd as 'lively'. 

Government, which operates the facility, says it is reviewing how it manages and improves the audience experience for future performances.

It adds: "Despite efforts already in place to influence and address audience behaviour in advance, and during the show, we are now actively exploring more direct operational adjustments."

Last year the Department of Education, Sport and Culture said it would be promoting ‘audience awareness’ regarding the impact of conversations during live events.

This included looking at introducing a sound recording, to be played before the start of a performances, and more security staff.

It followed complaints after Paolo Nutini’s gig in 2024 which was marred by people talking.
