Group hopeful Manx Government will take issue 'seriously'

The Digital Poverty Alliance has renewed calls for the Manx Government to engage with it over internet prices on the Island.

The UK-based campaign group believes broadband is a basic human right and the current climate is 'exacerbating digital poverty' on the Isle of Man.

It's written to the Cabinet Office minister but the DPA's Chief Operating Officer, Elizabeth Anderson, told Manx Radio a response is yet to be received:

Manx Radio requested an interview with Kate Lord-Brennan but was informed she won't be made available as 'government/Cabinet Office does not set or regulate internet prices'.

That's despite a government charter approved by the Cabinet Office which takes responsibility for 'making internet access, equipment and digital skills cheaper and more easily available.'

However, Minister Lord-Brennan has said she is drafting a response letter to the group.

The Communication Utilities Regulatory Authority is understood to be reviewing internet costs following a successful Motion brought to Tynwald by Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse.
