Chair of Housing and Communities Board calls for rule change
Some developers on the Isle of Man are buying their way out of building affordable housing.
That’s the claim from the chair of the Housing and Communities Board.
David Ashford has called for rules to be changed around ‘commuted sums’ saying they are a barrier to progress:
The North Douglas MHK says he doesn’t believe government is currently making enough ‘tangible’ progress on helping to ease the housing crisis.
He says more affordable, social and ‘last time’ housing needs to be created:

The Housing and Communities Board was given £1 million in this year’s Budget to continue its work.
During the debate Rushen MHK Juan Watterson also raised concerns about progress highlighting a potential development in Port Erin where a developer has offered a 'commuted sum' in lieu of building the required number of affordable housing units.
