DESC committed to finding 'fair and sustainable resolution' with NAHT

It's as union prepares to ballot members on industrial action

The Department of Education says it's committed to finding a fair and sustainable resolution with school leaders on the Island.

It's as the NAHT prepares to ballot its members on whether they should take industrial action.

It's over what the union describes as a 'dispute with the Island's education department' around treatment of its members.

The NAHT says it's protecting them from what it calls 'further misuse' of disciplinary proceedings and 'victimisation' of its officials.

The Department of Education says it's aware of its intention to ballot on industrial action.

It says its priority remains working constructively with the union to resolve the dispute and avoid any disruption to students, parents and schools.

A spokesperson says: "The Department is aware of the NAHT’s intention to ballot its members on industrial action.

"Our priority remains working constructively with the union to resolve this dispute and to avoid any disruption to pupils, parents, and schools.

"Discussions are ongoing, and we remain committed to finding a fair and sustainable resolution."

Previously, it has 'completely refuted' any claims it had breached professional standards.
