Department takes on more workers to deal with Brexit

DEFA identifies 91 regulatory matters needing attention

The Department of Environment, Food, and Agriculture has hired extra employees to help deal with the challenges posed by Brexit.

Two extra staff have been appointed to join the departments legislative team and funded from within the Department's existing budgets.

DEFA Minister Geoffrey Boot made the announcement during a sitting of the Environment and Infrastructure Policy Review Committee this Friday (11 May).

He said the department has identified 91 regulatory matters arising from the UK exit from the European Union which need to be addressed through legislation.

The DEFA Minister admitted civil servants have their work cut out.
