DEFA urges people to follow safety warnings and closures in Island's woodlands

Ignoring the signs is said to have potentially 'life-threatening consequences'

People are being urged to follow safety warnings and closures in some of the Island's glens, forests and plantations.

It's as the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture continues to make them safe after suffering storm damage.

DEFA says it's had reports of walkers and mountain bikers ignoring signage and entering active work zones at Archallagan Plantation and South Barrule.

It says storm-damaged trees are incredibly unpredictable and could be life-threatening if they suddenly roll or fall without warning.

Ignoring the closures is also said to be slowing the essential work needed to make the sites safe again.

DEFA says it's doing all it can to reopen the sites as quickly as possible, but that safety must always come first.
