It says the homes in question 'would have been constructed in accordance with the building regulations in force at the time'

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has confirmed it's reviewed a number of properties following claims their roofs hadn't been fitted properly.

It's after a social media video was shared about a number of homes in Peel by Geoff Smith, otherwise known as 'The Roofing Outlaw'.

He describes himself as on a mission to 'make roofing great again'.

He claimed a number of houses built by Dandara were developing mould because the roofs don't have proper ventilation - something the housing company strongly denied.

Now, DEFA says it's reviewed the estate referenced and says the properties, which were built around 10 years ago, would have been constructed in accordance with the building regulations in force at the time.

It says its officers visited some of the properties and spoke to homeowners to provide advice regarding ventilation.

DEFA’ s full statement is as follows:

The Department reviewed the estate referenced by the Roofing Outlaw, which was constructed around 10 years ago.

“Given the amount of time that has passed, no detailed records are available, as these are not retained beyond three years following completion.

“However, the properties would have been constructed in accordance with the Building Regulations that were in force at the time.

“Officers visited some of the properties and spoke to homeowners to provide advice regarding ventilation.

“It is understood that the developers also engaged with property owners on this matter.”
