Deep water berth report published for Douglas Harbour

Plans look at accommodating larger vessels, including cruise ships

Accommodating a deep water berth in Douglas Harbour for day cruise vessels.  

That's the subject of a report published by independent consultants ABP Marine Environmental Research.

The report looks at the possibility of "deepening the berth on the north side of Victoria Pier".

The Department of Infrastructure has proposed a 240-metre-long berth, at a cost of £11 million, as part of its Harbours Strategy.

This would accommodate larger vessels than can currently enter the port, predominantly day cruise ships.

The DoI says it's now considering the next series of studies.
