Decision on Castletown Golf Links Hotel plans delayed

Planning officials will now undertake site visit

A decision on plans to redevelop a landmark in the South of the Island have been delayed.

The Manx planning committee is holding off on a decision over proposals for the Castletown Golf Links Hotel site.

Dandara made an application back in 2017 to convert the former hotel into a 40-bed complex along with 40 residential apartments.

During the meeting, a planning officer recommended the committee should refuse the application because of the scale of the proposed development, its location and potential effect on wildlife in the area.

However, Dandara's Planning Director, David Humphrey, stated the site was already 'heavily used with human activity', adding the proposals were 'guided' by the local area plan.

The planning board have now decided to defer any verdict on the plans and undertake a site visit.

The reasons given for this are the belief that a site visit will be advantageous as well as the need for clarity from the MUA on the waste pumping station.
