Substantial snowfall causes gridlock on Island roads
The Director of Transport Services says day time snow is the 'worst bad weather scenario' for Bus Vannin, especially for school buses.
Ian Longworth says when snow strikes the ensuing rush to get home can lead to gridlock on the roads, making life difficult for transport services.
Any action on school closures due to bad weather is made after a number of authorities and departments have been consulted and a plan formulated.
With rural communities often the worst affected by substantial snowfall, Mr Longworth says sometimes certain school buses won't run at all:
