Cruise ship makes final trip to the Isle of Man

'Maud' to transfer to coastal service next year

A cruise ship is stopping at the Isle of Man for the final time today (Sunday 9 June).

Hurtigruten’s expedition cruise ship 'Maud', a regular visitor to the Island, arrived in Manx waters at 7am.

The 373 guests will be enjoying tours including a trip on the Steam Train, Cregneash, Nature walks and beach cleaning with Beach Buddies.

Some guests will be taking IOM Trike Tours' TT tour over the one-way Mountain Road.

However, this marks her last visit, as in 2025 the ship will transfer to the Hurtigruten Coastal service, to replace one of the ships that will be refurbished.

A spokesperson for Cruise Isle of Man said: "We have built some great friendships with the crew of the Maud, so it will be a bittersweet call."

Meanwhile, Beach Buddies said: "Beach Buddies has strong connections with Hurtigruten, going back several years. 

"Hurtigruten is the first cruise ship company in the world to take part in regular beach cleaning volunteer events, starting with Beach Buddies in the Isle of Man in 2017."

The Beach Buddies team will be meeting up with cruise ship passengers on the road leading to the Two-Six Cafe, with the event at Derbyhaven starting at 10:30am.

As always, all equipment is provided, and everyone is welcome to attend - not just cruise ship passengers.

Maud will depart the Isle of Man at around 5pm.
