Famous Island resident starts petition
A well known Island resident, and world famous actor, is to petition the British Parliament to grant a vote to the Crown Dependencies in the event of an in/out EU referendum.
John Rhys-Davies, best known perhaps from his role in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, says he became interested in petitioning parliament after returning to the UK following work abroad.
He says he was amazed no-one had raised the issue of the Crown Dependencies, and realised that whilst he's not normally resident in Britain himself, as a British citizen he's entitled to petition.
Mr Rhys-Davies believes the referendum is one of the most important, constitutionally significant events in recent times, and the outcome either way will be considerable:
