Covid pandemic changes the look of Tynwald Day

Celebrations take a different shape this year

It's Tynwald Day tomorrow - but not as we know it.

There'll be no fair, a skeletal ceremony and no public involvement in a bitesize Tynwald Day, with plans hampered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year, petitioners won't be allowed at the 'reduced' ceremony either, where only essential aspects are still going ahead.

You were asked to submit your petitions in writing by 5pm on Wednesday.

President Steve Rodan said "much of the spectacle and pageantry which usually surrounds the day will sadly not be possible this year."

The Lieutenant Governor will still lay a wreath at the War Memorial, and a minute's silence will be observed before the Royal Anthem kicks off proceedings on the hill.

The First Deemster will then direct the Coroner of Glenfaba and Yn Lhaihder to fence the Court before the Lord Bishop leads prayers, a change to the usual proceedings.
