A man will appear in court again next month over an incident in a Douglas club which saw him spit on a doorman.

22-year-old Nathanial Gilbert of Ashbourne Avenue admitted disorderly behaviour on licensed premises when he appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.

Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the hearing on 31 May Gilbert went to 1886 in Regent Street in Douglas.

But bar staff asked bouncers to intervene when he refused to pay for a drink at the bar.

He was asked to leave, but refused to do so and hung onto the bar when staff tried to physically remove him from the premises.

Eventually, he was thrown out at around 11.30pm, but a member of the public approached the doorman and said they'd seen Gilbert spitting.

The court heard Gilbert was on bail at the time of the offence as he awaits sentencing for an unrelated incident.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on 20 July.
