Could the answer to nearly 80-year-old mystery of abandoned baby be on the horizon?

A woman whose mum was abandoned near Ramsey as a baby nearly 80 years ago is hopeful she can trace her family's history.

Stephanie French, née Taylor, was just six days old when she was found on 14 April 1946, naked and wrapped in brown paper in Ballure Glen.

She was given the name 'Mary Ramsey' until she was adopted a few months later and moved to the UK.

While the police at the time weren't able to find out who her birth parents were, her daughter Lorraine and cousin John are hopeful they've got a step closer to some answers using DNA tracing.

Amy Griffiths has been finding out more:

Sadly, Stephanie died of cancer in 2012.

But Lorraine has never stopped searching for answers about her family's history.

She doesn't want to share the names they've found publicly yet, as it's likely there are some people still alive today who knew her mum's real parents.

But if you have any information that might help her search and you'd be happy to share it, you can contact Manx Radio at newsroom@manxradio.com.
