Infrastructure Minister confirms work will start next week

Contractors are going to start installing 20mph speed limit signs in Douglas and Onchan next week.

It's part of government's plans to reduce speed limits in urban areas - a move that's proven to be controversial.

The decision follows a unanimous Tynwald motion in October 2020 that was reaffirmed in 2023.

The Department of Infrastructure's been carrying out a public consultation on the proposals, asking for feedback on the roads that should be included in the scheme.

Consultations have also taken place all around the Island to inform decisions about which roads' speed limits will change elsewhere, the details of which will be published in the 'coming months'.

The signs will start to be installed from Monday 19 January.
