Compulsory microchipping of cats won't happen here yet

The purr-spective different on the Isle of Man

As the United Kingdom prepares to introduce compulsory microchipping of cats, the Department of Environment says the law will not automatically be reciprocated on the Isle of Man.

The UK government's law will state all pet cats must be microchipped by the time they are 20 weeks old.

It's hoped it will see more lost or stray pet cats reunited with their owners and returned home safely.

DEFA says while it has no current plans to bring in the legislation here, it recognises the benefits of microchipping, remains open to exploring all future options and advises cat owners to have their cats microchipped.
