Community service for thief who stole bowl of salad

47-year-old couldn't remember committing string of offences

A court's heard an Anagh Coar man couldn't remember carrying out a string of crimes because he was drunk at the time.

Forty-seven-year-old Lee Simon Crawley, of Tramman Park, appeared at Douglas Courthouse.

At an earlier hearing he'd pleaded guilty to theft, going equipped to steal, being drunk and disorderly and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour.

Police had stopped him in Douglas after seeing he was wearing socks on his hands and was carrying a holdall.

Inside the bag were tools and officers discovered Crawley had stuffed a car stereo into his clothing.

Staff at the Co-op store in Port Erin called police on 13 November last year after CCTV showed he'd stolen a salad bowl.

And on 11 April he dialled 999 about his neighbours but became abusive when officers turned up and then swore at staff at Noble's Hospital.

He was ordered to carry out 180 hours of community service, pay £3 compensation to the Co-op for the food he'd taken and pay £1,000 towards prosecution costs.
